Women for Tri, a program of The IRONMAN Foundation was launched by IRONMAN and Life Time Fitness in 2015. It works to increase female participation at all levels in triathlon. These three things are measured in the most widely recognized test of endurance – triathlon. IRONMAN Maine 70.3 – 2018 Team RTA triathlon club continued their 2018 season with an EPIC Team Race in Old Orchard Beach, ME which is about a 5 hour drive from northern, NJ. Team RTA Takes on IRONMAN Lake Placid Each year a group of athletes from Team RTA target IRONMAN Lake Placid as one of their top priority races. It’s an iconic race and needless to say, our triathlon club loves it. As a result, IMLP is an annual Team Race.
This year was IRONMAN Lake Placid’s 20 year anniversary. It is an incredible venue for athletes and spectators. It’s also the longest running IRONMAN in North America. All of this, only 4 hours from northern New Jersey. Jackpot! If you’re thinking about signing up for an IRONMAN, THIS IS THE ONE! This year we had a smaller group then usual, but none the less it was still an incredible race for all those who toed the line. Next year, we expect a bigger group including many first timers. We’ve Landed On The Moon! We are absolutely THRILLED and HONORED to have been selected as a recipient of the Women for Tri triathlon club grant for the 4th time! Team RTA had 30+ athletes racing which made it a lot of fun. With nearly 100 RTA athletes & supporters on hand we had an incredible pre race dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Lake Placid. It was the perfect pre race gathering. Race morning was a bit chilly, however it turned out to be a perfect day. Each year Team RTA organizes Team Races. They are always a BLAST! TEAM RACE: St. Anthony’s Triathlon Guest Post by RTA Club member, Larry C Last week RTA had their first Team Race of the year in St. Petersburg, FL. About 12 club members made the trip to Florida to race the iconic St. Anthony’s Triathlon and kick off the 2017 season.
Because I always enjoy reading race reports from others, I decided to write my own. This report is a summary from my own eyes. I tried to keep it short. To The Soon To Be, IRONMAN A letter to the triathlete about to step up to the IRONMAN starting line. To the Soon To Be, Months ago, you made a decision; you signed a piece of paper, and decided to commit yourself, to what I believe is the most grueling endurance race on the planet. You made the decision to challenge your body, and your mind, and see just what you are capable of. But that was then, and this is now. There has been 1000’s of miles logged since that fateful day. Early mornings in the pool, late nights on the bike trainer, and runs during the hottest part of the day, and those are just the basic elements. There were the lifts, the yoga sessions, the doctors appointments, but even more important, there were the birthday parties, the weddings, the days and hours of work, and the events that could not be missed. It’s been a journey, and not an easy one.
As some of you may know we have a BIG group of athletes racing IRONMAN Lake Placid on Sunday (7/24).
We have 17 from RTA racing IRONMAN Lake Placid AND nearly another 100 family, friends & club members cheering for those racing. There’s NOTHING BETTER then racing along side your teammates and having the support of others. Below is a list of who’s racing and how you can track them on race day. UPDATE Over the past few weeks, Team RTA has been very busy training and racing. Our coached athletes and club members alike, have continued to kick butt and add to their list of multisport accomplishments… while having loads of fun along the way. There have been countless first time finishers at various distances, TONS of new PR’s and several podium performances.
As professional triathlon coaches one of the most satisfying aspects of our job is helping our athletes and Team RTA club members achieve their goals and realize their dreams. Today, youth triathlon is where it’s at as kids are to running to the sport at a swift rate.
USA Triathlon (USAT) has made youth development a priority as triathlon is currently the fastest growing sport in US Olympic Movement. The explosion of youth triathlon and the sport in general has picked up so much steam that it was recently approved by the NCAA to become a an emerging Division I sport for women, creating new opportunities within the Olympic pipeline for student-athletes. If all goes well, one would expect a Division I status for men will soon follow. Over the last few years Youth Triathlon, categorized by kids ages 7-17, has taken off at an incredible pace. With the explosion in youth triathlon, Ridgewood Tri Athlete (RTA) decided to launch an Intro to Triathlon program for kids. The idea was to introduce the kids within the community to triathlon and a healthy life style in a fun and enticing way. The goal was to get 15 kids to sign up for the program, but that didn’t happen. Instead, RTA had over 50 kids register for their first Kids Triathlon Training Program – “Intro to Tri” – and it proved to be a HUGE success! The success of the program should have come as no surprise as the landscape of youth triathlon continues to explode among our kids. |
